Just when you thought things had settled down in regards to disabled access on Australian airlines, another player enters the picture. This week Qantas Airlines announced that they limit the number of wheelchair-users on some of their domestic flights.
To be clear, it?s been reported that Qantas told some disabled athletes that they limit the number of wheelchair-users to two on their smaller domestic flights. ?Smaller? was further defined as a Boeing 737 or smaller aircraft.
Of course this didn?t go over very well with the disabled athletes. I mean, how are they going to get a whole team to a game if they can only go two at a time?
Virgin Blue really took a bashing last week from the disabled community until they modified their restrictive policy about wheelchair-users traveling unattended. I expect the same will happen with this policy.
