This week Bonaire welcomes Wounded Warriors for a week filled with diving adventures. Captain Don’s Habitat, home of Diving Freedom, is the host site for this week-long event.
The group of six men and women injured in Afghanistan or Iraq will spend the week completing their open water dive certification. They will be accompanied by their spouses and volunteers from Disabled Sports USA and the Handicapped Scuba Association.
This is the second year the Wounded Warriors have visited Bonaire.
Bonaire is a favorite dive site for disabled divers; in fact we covered this popular dive destination in the Summer 2007 (current) issue of Emerging Horizons.
So if you are thinking about taking up diving, contact the good folks at the Handicapped Scuba Association and they will direct you. They even have group diving trips.
Check it out. I have to also add that some of the nicest people I’ve ever met are divers!
