Free Art in Kansas City

My artist friend Terry just wrote to tell me about an absolutely unbelievable deal in Kansas City. The Nelson Atkins Museum, not only offers free admission, but they also throw in free audio tours. You can’t get a much better deal than that!

Located within walking distance of Kansas City’s Country Club Plaza, the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art features a permanent collection of over 33,500 objects. So it’s not a little two-room museum. Far from it, in fact it’s internationally recognized. After looking at the website, I’m totally amazed that they offer free admission. They must have a heck of a grant writer!

Even their restaurant seems reasonably priced, and it looks like a nice place for a lunch break.

Access is good throughout the museum, with barrier-free access to all of the galleries. Wheelchairs are also available for free loan at the Coat Check on the Lobby Level of the Bloch Building.

And although the hotels right around the plaza aren’t exactly on the cheap side, Terry reports that you don’t have to go far to find reasonably priced accommodations.

So next time you’re in Kansas City, check out the Nelson Atkins Museum of Art.

Thanks again for the great tip Terry!
