My friends at the incredibly cool Big Bottom Market in Guerneville just launched a fun new Thursday evening event — Winemaker Thursdays. It’s pretty much what the name implies — every Thursday evening a local winemaker will be invited to showcase their wines, share their story and even discuss wine and food pairings.
Tonight’s event kicks off at 6 PM and features Kenny Likitprakong of the Hobo Wine Company. Kenny will share his winemaking story and explain the meaning behind the Hobo Wine Company’s quirky name.
Future Winemaker Thursday evenings will feature:
- Anthony Filiberti of Anthill Farms Winery and Knez Winery (August 18, 2011).
- Marimar Torres of Marimar Estate Vineyards and Winery (August 25, 2011).
So come on down and learn a little bit about some Sonoma wines!
The Big Bottom Market officially celebrated their grand opening last week, but they’ve been doing business since late July. And in that short time co-owner Michael Volpatt has become known as the unofficial concierge of the Russian River wine country. You’ll usually find him chatting with customers, giving directions or even offering wine tasting suggestions. So it’s definitely worth a stop; in fact I’d say it was a required stop on any Russian River wine tasting adventure.
Truth be told, Michael steered me over to Marimar Estate Vineyards, where I enjoyed a great tapas and wine pairing.
And the good news is, the Big Bottom Market is wheelchair-accessible and it even has a nice wheelchair-accessible restroom. It’s also a great place to pick up a deli sandwich for that afternoon picnic. You can eat it there — on their gorgeous redwood community table — or take it with you. And coming this fall, the Big Bottom Market will be introducing some cool wine tasting packages — more details about that in the fall issue of Emerging Horizons.
So drop on by the Big Bottom Market the next time you’re in Guerneville — you won’t be disappointed!!
