Well, the Department of Justice (DOJ) once again surprised me when they announced their decision to extend the compliance date for access to pools and hot tubs in places of public accommodation. While I had hoped that pools would be open for business this summer, that’s the case at all. In fact the DOJ extended the compliance date to January 31, 2013.
Yep, you read that one right.
On the plus side – and this is a very good thing – the original regulations will be implemented a written. To the dismay of many folks in the tourism industry, hotels and other places of public accommodation will not be able to use portable lifts, except in rare cases where that is the only option that will work for the facility. And, when they do use portable lifts, they can’t be stored during pool operating hours.
So in a way that’ a good thing, We got the rules that we need, but we’ll just have to wait a little longer until they’re implemented.
But come next summer, everybody will be able to get into the pool!!
