As we wind down to the departure date for our Fall Road Trip (Wed. Oct. 2) I’m busy tying up loose ends and finalizing our itinerary. Even though we’ve traveled through the Southwest a lot, I’m really looking forward to seeing some new (for me) things, and to visiting a whole slew of accessible properties.
Our route will take us through Nevada (with a stop at Area 51 and Great Basin National Park) then continue on into Utah where we will revisit Bryce Canyon and the Burr Trail, and stop in at some of the lesser know Utah State Parks. Then it’s on to Colorado for a stop at Crested Butte and the Black Canyon of the Gunnison before heading down to Taos, NM and then continuing on to Albuquerque.
We’ll land in Albuquerque for 5 days while we cover the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta and reconnect with some writer friends. Then it’s down to Alamogordo and our favorite airy-fairy hot-springs in Truth or Consequences. After that we’ll visiting a birding B&B in Southern Arizona, explore the Tucson area and then head up to Sedona, Flagstaff, Meteor Crater and Peach Springs (on Old Route 66). And on the final leg of our journey we’ll stop in at the Grand Canyon Skywalk and the Mojave National Preserve.
We’ll be gone for about a month, and except for a little R&R at the hot springs it’s a work-filled trip. But I’m excited about all the accessible places we’ll visit.
So stay tuned for pictures, articles, links, and of course a new book.
