Well, at long last the US may be catching up with the UK as far as taxis are concerned. Over in the UK, accessible taxis are standard; in fact they are pretty much mandated by the law. Granted their big taxis don’t look like the ones you find in the US, but at least they can accommodate everyone.
There are a handful of cities in the US that have adapted taxis; usually in the form of taxi vans with lifts or ramps, but they are far from standard. And they are pretty few and far between. But maybe that’s all about to change. Standard Taxi Company has just introduced their new taxi models that would incorporate access in each and every taxi cab. Of course there are more benefits than that (although that would be enough for me). Standard Taxis also have interchangeable exterior panels which minimizes repair costs, and they are reportedly very cost efficient to operate.
