Excellent Virginia Road Trip Book

If a Virginia road trip is in your future, be sure and pick up a copy of Virginia Off the Beaten Path, by Judy Colbert. Although the book doesn’t specifically list access (see judy’s reply to my first question below) it’s a great idea book. And if you like to find those off-the-beaten-path gems like I do, then this is the book for you. Continue reading

Excellent Route 66 Guide

61IFF9qVtfL._SX387_BO1,204,203,200_As a self-defined Route 66 junkie, I’m thrilled to see more guidebooks on the Mother Road. Some are better than others, and that’s certainly the case with Amy Bizzarri’s, The Best Hits on Route 66. If nothing else this well-illustrated guide gets you in the mood for a road trip; but beyond that, it’s filled with useful information on a plethora of roadside attractions along the way. Yosemite-cover-400x600I’m thrilled to announce the release of my latest accessible travel title – “Barrier-Free Travel; Yosemite, Sequoia and Kings Canyon National Parks for Wheelers and Slow Walkers”. I had a great time researching this book – partly because I grew up in the area and I have fond memories of exploring Yosemite with my dad, but also because I now live close to the parks. And after 40 years of writing travel I’ve finally penned a book about my home turf! It’s about time. Continue reading

You just can’t beat the views from the rim

When I was researching my Barrier-Free Grand Canyon book, I remember the front desk supervisor at El Tovar telling me that winter was the best time to visit the park, as not only are their fewer people there at that time, but you can also snag some pretty good deals if you shop around. And you know what — she’s right! With that in mind, here are a few money saving deals in one of my favorite national parks. Continue reading

A little celebration is in order.

A little celebration is in order!

Not to toot my own horn, but I’ve  received my fair share of awards over my 40-plus year writing career. That said, I’m especially proud of the Lowell Thomas Award that Charles and I recently won for Resting Easy in the US. Not only is it a very prestigious award, but it also lends some credibility to this niche that we’ve been covering exclusively for the past 20 years. Continue reading
